Welcome to the 2019/20 school year! The coaching staff are very excited for another year at the Sands Baseball Academy. We will begin the year with a mixture of classroom sessions and on field practice, taking advantage of the nice weather we have been experiencing so far this September.

In the classroom we will be going over the course outline, discussing expectations, responsibilities, and learning about how to set SMART goals for ourselves. Moving forward, goal setting will be an important part of the process for students in creating their personal learning plans. As we progress through the year students will revisit their goals and make adjustments to their learning plans where needed.

On field we will be learning daily routines and the structure of a typical baseball practice. Throughout the year, but especially in the fall, there will be a focus on fundamental skill development. This time of year is a great opportunity to implement mechanical adjustments without the pressure of performing in competition. The fall also gives us the opportunity to be on the field as a team and incorporate team defence into our sessions.

For many of our new players, this may be the first time that they have played into the fall and winter. We will be implementing a shoulder maintenance routine into our program and we encourage all students to utilize it in order to protect them against injury. We encourage all students to participate to the best of their ability but we understand that young arms may not be accustomed to throwing this much. Should any of our students be experiencing soreness or an injury, the coaching staff must be informed so the proper accommodations can be made.

The coaching staff is excited to be back and we are looking forward to another fantastic year!

Spring Update

May 2019

The Sands Baseball Academy has had a good start to the spring. With improved weather, we have been enjoying our time spent back on the baseball field after a winter of hard work in the cages. Getting back on the diamond has allowed us to include elements of team defence and situational awareness into practice, while continuing to reinforce the individual skills developed throughout the winter.

With baseball seasons beginning to get under way, we have begun preparing to compete. This has included on field batting practice, situational hitting, situational base running, team defence, live defensive reads off the bat, managing throwing programs, and creating bullpen routines.

The coaching staff is looking forward to the spring and continuing to work with the students to develop their skills and understanding of the game.
